HOw do I force feed formula into my baby??
« on: April 05, 2006, 23:18:42 pm »
Finally, I have conquered the solid food monster!  My dd is finally eating solids. She eats about 2 jars of stage 2 veggies/ fruits a day plus cereal and yogurt.  Maybe some avocado, and cheese, etc...Kind of a lot.  Of course, there is a price.  Now her formula intake has gone wayyy down.  She was probably drinking about 24-28 oz. before really getting the hang of solids.  NOw if I am lucky, she will take 21oz but mostly, she will take about 17-18.  I am going crazy trying to figure out where to put those extra ounces.  I can put some in her cereal but she doesn't take it from a sippy cup yet.  (only water).  It actually makes sense that her formula is going down but everyone says she STILL should have 24 oz. in a day.  I feel like that is impossible!  It never ends does it?
Oh, she is 9 months btw.

Anyone want to reassure me that 17 oz is enough for one day?  :)

Thank you.

Actually to me it sounds like you are doing just fine. I would think that 17-18 oz for a 9mo old is normal as long as she's eating plenty of solids. A mod could probably confirm though...

Sounds great to me! Once they begin to take in more solids, their formula intake will decrease. Make sure that she is getting dairy through cheese, yogurt, etc. My DD never took many ounces of formula either. 24 ounces is an average - every baby is different. At 9 months my DD was taking around 18-20 ounces. HTH!

Thank you so much!  I was beginning to think I was doing something completely wrong!  Thanks again, that helped a lot....
