Trying to set first nap with irregular wake up
« on: March 01, 2006, 17:17:45 pm »
Ok So out of despiration...I've just set Ella's first nap at 9 because she'll wake up anytime between 6 and 7.  I honestly can't tell a difference in nap length based on awaketime.  SOmetimes the nap is 30 min sometimes it's an hour.  It there just a point where they will consistently nap for a set amount at a set naptime even though the wakeup time varies?

Thanks!
Rebecca

Its a bit of a chicken and egg one because as one gets more consistent so does the other!

Best thing to do is to ensure first that the nap is longer than 45 mins.  Any shorter than that and they aren't thought to be restorative so that will have a knock on effect with other timings.  Stick with the nap extension for a week or so and see if morning waking times become more regular.

I've tried various things (W2S...leaving her for the balance of the hour...shsh pat doesn't work) but to no avail.  The past two mornings she's woken around 6ish but fell asleep for 15-20 min just before 7.  By doing this she took an hour nap both mornings but then her second nap (a little less than 3hrs after waking) has been 30 min on the dot.  I don't think she's overtired b/c she used to do a 30 min morning nap but not be ready for the second nap until three hours later and then sleep for 1-1.5 hrs.

Is this just a six month old working out her daytime sleep slowly but surely?

I would be very interested to hear any reply to this post cause i think i have a very similar situation. Ben has gone from sleeping very well to only sleeping for 30 mins. i dont know whether to just observe him for a while or try pu/pd straight away. Does ellas naps have anything to do with food and calories do you think?
