how much solids
« on: May 12, 2006, 13:13:06 pm »
Hi
I was wondering what is too much for a meal. I give my DS 1/2 jar of fruit or veg with 4-5tbs of cereal and he always demands for more. I don't give anymore because I feel he had enough already, it almost fills a 6oz custard cup. He is a few days shy of 6 months. I've also started a 2nd solid meal. He is combo fed(bottle and breast) so it makes it harder to know the exact amount of liquids he gets. I assume Its around 20oz plus whatever I put in solid which is not more than a few ounces/day. He like his food thick. Would you increase the amount/meal or leave it as is.

At his age, he should be getting around 32 oz of formula per day. Since he's both breast and bottle fed, it might be harder to figure out just how much he's getting, but it sounds like he may be a little low. You might try increasing his formula a bit, and once his intake is a bit higher, you can worry a bit less about how much solids he eats. 6 oz is a lot of solids, but some babies are hungrier than others and that's okay!
