Are we ready for 1 nap?
« on: May 12, 2006, 14:41:23 pm »
I've read a lot here before posting, and can't figure out whether I should try the transition yet or not.  DS is 10.5 months, and around 8 months we finally made it over the 30 minute nap hurdle.  For quite some time he's been taking great naps 2x a day and sleeping well at night (always has at night - 11.5 hours usually).  I'll post our schedule:

7am wake and bf
8:30 breakfast
10:00 nap, anywhere from 45min to an hour
11:00 bf
12:30/1:00 lunch
2:30 nap, 1.25 - 1.5 hours
4:00 bf
5:15 dinner
6:30 start bedtime routine, in bed by 7:30

He got REALLY sick over the weekend - nasty flu that caused vomitting and diarrhea.  For two days he clung to me, and slept on me a lot during the day on and off.  He slept in his crib at night, waking up at the usual time.  Since then he's refused the morning nap every day. It's been 5 days - 7 including the days he was sick - and he gets tired and acts as if he's ready to go down, but then sleeps very little if at all.  He just keeps standing up in his crib.  He has still be taking the "second" nap around 2:30, and sleeps the same 1.5 hours.

His morning wake up time has gotten earlier and earlier, and this morning he was up at 5:30.  I got him back to sleep around 6:30 and let him sleep til 7:50.  Now he's in his crib for nap #1 and not sleeping, even though I waited until he let me know he was ready.

Help!  I liked the two naps at about an hour each, and I can't get them back!

I kept my two year old on a two nap schedule til 12 mos.  He then started not taking good afternoon naps and I realised I needed to lessen the morning nap until it was gone (one hour, 45 mins, 30 mins, none...it took a few weeks to get it down to nothing).  I do know people whose Lo's still needed the morning nap for a month or two more.  My LO was sleeping 11 or 12 hours at night too.  He should give you clues when its time....either not napping well in the PM or not wanting to go down at night.  When he was on two naps, they were always at 10am and 2pm.  When I went down to one a day I had to move up the time to 1:00-1:30 because he couldn't make it longer.  You'll have to experiment a little, but if everything is going well right now I would just stick with it for a little while longer.
