Waking on and off during night
« on: May 11, 2006, 20:50:20 pm »
Hi all,

Any help with 4 month old who keeps waking during night time?

He falls asleep on his own with no problems but come 2am he stirs every hour until i feed him at 4.30 - 5am.  He does suck a soother but doesn't need it to go asleep at night but when he wakes it seems to be the only thing that soothes him back to sleep.

Last week he started sleeping from 9pm till 6.30am with no wakenings but he's back to his old habits again.

Any suggestions??

Fiona

I think Tracy suggested that if they start night wakings at 4 months, they might be needing to switch to 4 hr. E.A.S.Y. if they haven't yet.  I don't know what your schedule is like, but could that help?

Wakes at 6am for 7oz feed and usually falls back to sleep for 2 hours.  I feed him again at 10(another 7oz formula) and he plays for an hour or so and sleeps for 1.30 - 2 hours.  Feed at 1.30 - spoon feed and some juice.  Play for and hour or so and sleep for 2 hours.  Feed again at 5.30(70z formula).  Then feed at 8.30pm (8oz formula with 2 spoons of baby rice in it).

I'm interested to hear replies.  Our son is up to the same tricks!  From 4 weeks until about 3.5 months he would sleep a 6 hour stretch at bedtime have a feed and then sleep for 3 hours more.  For the past month, he wakes up 45 min in if he is overtired (at least we've figured that one out and know how to avoid it or when it's coming) then again between 10:30-12:00 sometime but for no apparent reason, he isn't hungry, just can't fall back asleep on his own!  This is weird because he falls back asleep on his own at other times through the night and during naps.  After that wake up, he usually will sleep for a few more hours until it's time for his feed but after that feed he sometimes will wake up every hour, sometimes goes to sleep on his own for those, other times we have to go in and pat him.  It is very inconsistent which is why we don't understand it!  Last night he slept right through until midnight, again until 4:30 when he had a feed and then until 6:30 when he got up (bedtime is between 7-7:300 but the night before he woke up 8 times!!!!
