Reaction to formula

Hi everyone just a quick (ish) question; how long could it take a baby to show a reaction to a type of formula milk? Dominic was breast fed for 4 weeks with the very occasional top up of formula but after 4 weeks I wasn't filling him up so changed him to total formula milk. He was on Aptamil stage one until about 6 weeks old and for the last almost 3 weeks he's been on the Aptamil stage 2 (hungry baby) milk. He developed eczema on his face which has got much better since I've been lathering on aqueous cream twice a day but he has now got the eczema on his arms and spots on his tummy. The HV saw the spots and didn't seem concerned but they look different to the eczema and I think they irritate him when rubbed (had to stop doing the tummy part of his baby massage routine).

For the last two days he's been off his milk a bit but he had his 1st injections on Friday afternoon so I've put it down to that.

I am ok to change to a different brand of formula? We go on holiday for a week next Sunday and I'm really conscious of getting him sorted before we go away as I don't want to be in a foreign country with a spotty unhappy baby!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I also have used Aptimel 1, 2 and now 3.

DS also has a bit eczema and he had a particulary bad patch on his face I needed antibiotics for. He also used to really scratch his head and face, to the extend of taking out chunks.

I have to say that he has stopped doing it now,however that could coincide with the change to Aptimel #3.

I never thought about linking the eczema with his formula but does make sense.

There is no reason why you can't change milk, if your not sure about buying a full box of power, you can always try out a ready made carton, but they are pricey.

Also, another thought I had was that there are a lot of viruses that babies get that show up as spots on the belly.  You said that it looked different than the eczema so maybe that's what it is.  Especially if he is fussy and out of sorts as well.  My DS always got rashes with any virus that he caught.  Soemtimes they would last a week or two.  HTH.

Hi,

Just wanted to pop on and say that the 'ready made' cartons are often too rich for a young baby to digest.  My DD spent the night in the hospital at 2 months after giving her the ready made stuff.  All of the nurses said that babies generally can;t stand it until at least 6 months.  You would think that they would put that on the container but alas they don't.  Just a heads up either way.
