OK ... no poop for almost a week????
« on: May 19, 2006, 04:52:54 am »
Is this normal?  I'm thinking of calling the pediatrician tomorrow.  I'm not certain, but I think dd's (3 months old today) last poop was last Friday or Sat.  Good pee volume, but no poop.   I know that sometimes breastfed babies might not have a poop for a couple days, but we are going on 6 or 7 days???

Ok you have 6 or 7 more days to beat Liam's record ;) ;) ;)... the longest time 13 days I was scared about when it would happen as we were out A LOT with the toddler & I could see it all over the car or the pram... surprisingly it wasn't that huge... just very stinky

Anything up to 10 days is considered normal for a breastfed baby & even then if they aren't upset up to 14 days can be ok
Breast milk is used very effeiciently & the amount your lo is taking must be exactly what he needs.
I'd just enjoy the wet only nappies... my ds#2 who only pooped every 10 days has made up for it since he started solids.

Thank YOU for reply .. I was hanging out hoping someone would respond ... You've eased my mind greatly!
This didn't happen with ds#1 ... when he was exclusively bfing ... no more than a couple days without poop, but most of the time he had a poop a day.

Thanks again!

My ds#1 was a poop every feed boy & we were "shocked" because we had been told bf babies only did poops once a week or so.

They can do both, my mum said we used to poop after every feed, but my three went for 7-10 days!!

Our son has one weekly bowel movement and he makes the most of it!  We laugh because so far it's usually on the weekends when my husband is home and he gets diaper changing duty.  When it happens to me during the week I never quite know what to do other than dunk the kid in the bathtub because he seems to get it everywhere, especially on his feet!  The pediatrician said this (once a week pooping) is normal and that we would only need to worry if he had hard or formed poops, or if we pushed on his tummy and felt that it was hard or distended.  It's a nice problem to have!

DD used to change her pattern - sometimes nothing for a week, some days after each feed! I've been told as long as they have regular wet nappies (so are not dihydrated) everything is *normal* ;D

PS Since she is established on solids she has a dirty nappy after each feed, you can set your clock by her ;)

;D  lol - had a thread on here last week called poop problem for the same reason!  He was going over a week between them and was getting quite uncomforable but our doctor also said as long as his tummy felt ok to the touch and when he had them that they were still liquidy, we were ok.  Ironically, he has been on rice cereal for almost 2 weeks and although it's supposed to constipate them more, he started pooping once a day about 4 or 5 days after starting on it.  Then, tried brown rice cereal 3 days ago which is supposed to have more fiber, and he hasn't pooped since!

OK - she pooped over the weekend and has been pooping once a day since ... Thanks everyone!!!  I'll worry less if she goes for another 7 day without pooping.

Both my DD and DS's bowel patterns would change. But omg when they went after 7 days of not going did I know about it  :o

DS's bowel movements have just changed to doing it after every feed now. What's that all about.

Glad it's sorted.
