2 to 1 at 9 1/2 months?
« on: May 15, 2006, 15:45:48 pm »
Hi!  My lo is 9 1/2 months and he has been very fussy for his pm nap in the last week or so.  He has been able to stay awake longer in the am - usually until 10 or 10:30 and naps for about an hour and a half to 2hours.  Often he will get tired only around 3pm and I can get him down at 3:30 or 4 - but i wake him up (or sometimes he does on his own) no later than 4:30.   Do I follow his lead and see .... or do I wake him in the am? (don't really want to).  Should I try putting him down later in the am?  Is he too young? Are these signs he is getting ready for one nap?  So many questions?!
Thanks for any advice or suggestions.  Alex

How is his behavior otherwise? Is he fussy in afternoon and evenings? Any nightwakenings? I definitely think he's too young for one nap - you should either stick with long morning nap and afternoon catnap if it works for you and him or cut his morning nap at one hour (or 1.25) and try for a longer and happier afternoon nap.

We are going through a similar thing at the moment. My DD prefers her long nap in the morning for 1.5-2hrs but only wants a short nap in the PM over the last week it has been 45mins  >:( but i am working at getting her past this and i did the other day using W2S and she slept for 1hr15mins (much better )  :D
So if you are happy with a shorter PM nap and longer AM nap then that is fine, perhaps try and extend the morning awake time to see if he will sleep longer for you again. What is his awake time?
Generally my DD is 3-3.5hrs before AM and PM nap and 3.5-3.75hrs before bedtime.

IT IS 11 AM AND HE IS STILL AWAKE - Happily!   HE ONLY FUSSES IN THE PM WHEN I TRY TO PUT HIM DOWN....  ?  I KNOW HE IS TOO YOUNG, BUT HE SEEMS TO BE SHOWING ALL THE SIGNS TO WANTING TO DROP THE NAP?  I'M GOING TO TRY TO PUT HIM DOWN NOW.....!  THANKS

Good luck, keep us posted especially if he does decided to go to 1 nap i would be interested how you managed it. As i think my DD will be ready to do this over the next few months.

How are you going with this? We are still struggling with PM nap and today she woke early from her Am nap (i think due to teething i hope). I am going nuts  >:(
