can a baby have too much sleep??
« on: May 26, 2006, 07:20:37 am »
I know it sounds a sillyl question, but can they?

My LO is 3 mths - and she seems to want to sleep all the time.  During the day she will sleep for approx 5 hours in 3 nap times and at nite she goes to bed at 6.30pm, she then has a dreamfeed about 11 (which she generally wakes up for) and the sleeps again through to 6.30pm - approx 17 hrs in a day!!

I have tried to extend her A time but she just gets grumpy.  When she is awake she seems quite alert and aware of things.  She is feeding  every 3.5-4 hrs.
Have I just got a baby that likes her sleep!

I think she is just a sleepy baby. I think that if she was having too much sleep during her naps then it would affect her night time sleep. Well done and enjoy your little darling!

My 13 week old DD does pretty much the same thing.  Awake time during the day is 1.5hrs before the next nap.  I am slowly trying to stretch her out, but my DS couldn't handle two  hours until 4 mos.  I figure she's the same.  That is normal because when they finally can handle two hours awake....it's time to move to 4 hour EASY.  My DD also, goes down by about 7pm and wakes at 6:30am with a 10:00 DF.  I can't wait to get rid of the DF, but right now she seems to need it.  you sound like you have an easy going baby!

The answer is yes but it doesn't sound as though it's the case for your LO.  If she was getting too much daytime sleep it would affect her nights but as she's sleeping through you must be doing everything just perfectly  ;D
