The first long nap, but really short activity time!
« on: May 31, 2006, 21:31:20 pm »
Hi Girls! Its been 5 days since I started E.A.S.Y, and it seems to be working wonders for my little boy.. We have recently just got Nathan to sleep by himself (he was using our chests as a bed, and would absolutely not sleep anywhere else!) that has changed and he is now co-sleeping with me (I plan on moving him to the crib once he has established that he can sleep by himself)....  Anyways todays routine went like this:

9:30 AM wake Eat 4oz + cereal
Activity until 11:30
11:40-12:30 nap
12:30-1:15 activity (because his nap was short)
Eat 1:15
Activity 1:30-2:00
2:15 until 4:30 nap (the longest nap he has ever taken, he usually only takes 45 minute naps, but I have been trying to extend them by patting/shh replacing soother, etc, today it worked but I had to go in every 45 mins) should I have woken him up? I went in when he woke up the last time and just picked him up and woke him up, but he still seemed tired!
Eat 4:30
Activity 4:30-5:10 only 40 mins activity and he was already yawning..
5:20 until now nap..... still napping

I don't know why he napped for so long today, and why he is so tired.. Last night was the first night I let him sleep in my bed.. He went to bed at 8:30 until 1:30, I fed him, then he woke up at 3:30 and then I pat/shh back to sleep until 4:30, and then he wouldn't go back to sleep until 5:30... do you think these frequent wakings caused him to be so tired today?

Sorry for all the questions, I just really need your advice!
Thanks

Angela

okay... now i have some ideas for you.. i think his first A time might be just a bit too long.  therefore, he's actually overtired when you put him down for a nap, which means a short nap & he begins to seem tired all day.  try cutting that first A time back to 1.5 to 1.75 hrs and see if that helps too.

for the afternoon nap, yes you just keep resettling.  if you check out the nap board, they have a post at the top about overcoming 45 minutes naps.

the many night wakings are probably due to not-great day sleep.  as you get his naps sorted out, you will probably start to see better nighttime sleep.

HTH  :D
