sleep issue for 2 week old
« on: June 18, 2006, 12:26:15 pm »
dd may have her times mixed up,

here is our routine

i let dd wake which is around 7-8am, then i wake her every 3 hours for a feed if she hasn't already woken, mostly i have to wake her, dd is very easy to put back asleep, infact she is nearly always asleep whilst feeding, i do make sure dd opens her eyes before putting her down again

the problem beginns in the evening when she wakes or is woken at around 6-7pm she will then resist going back to sleep for at least 3 hours, i do every thing the same as earlier in the day, have a got it wrong? should l keep dd up? i try to put her down within 45 minutes of waking, sometimes at this time it can be 1 hour and 15 minutes as by the time i feed her, let dd1 have a hold, cuddle from dad, wash and change of clothing

do you think dd2 is over tired?

i have read the frequently ask question, should i really feed dd again if she has not gone to sleep after 45 minutes? isn't this like feeding her to sleep?

is pat/shush for babies under 1 months old the same as for babies under 3 months in frequently ask question

this has been going on before dd left hospital

I strongly believe that all babies have wake times and cranky times (which normally coincide with the wake times) and it seems that time just seems to be your baby's time to be awake.  Which isn't a bad thing at all since its earlier in the evening.  I would do what you do.  Give her a bath, play with her, and all that stuff.  Then feed again in 2 hours (not 45 mins unless she seems hungry) and then try to put her to bed again.

My son is 3 weeks old and we are going through teh same EXACT thing except after the first morning feed, which is normally around 6-7 a.m. He's up and doesn't get cranky until 1.5 hours later.  Then I try to put him down and he won't have it.  So I normally feed him after 2.5 hours and then he sleeps for like 3 hours!!!!!

Russyl, pat-shush is the same as for babies under 3MO, so you can do as it is suggested in the FAQ's, and as for the time i woudn't recommend you feed her after 45min, i would suggest to do it at least after 2hrs have gone by.

And as for the evenings, i would wake her up at 6 or 7 depending on how her days goes, and feed her, then bathe her and a cuddle and put her to sleep, or at least try with pat-shush, but i woudln't let more than 1hr and 15min pass, but that's just MHO.
