wierd question
« on: June 11, 2006, 22:54:00 pm »
Naps have never really been a problem here, the occasional refusal but mostly good length etc but we have a night problem & my gut says it is time for Liam to move to 1 nap... Aiden didn't until 21months, but hey no 2 children are the same.

at the moment we have
7am wakeup
9.30/10 nap (45-60mins)
1.30/2pm nap (60-120mins)
7/7.30pm bed

We've just got over a cold & teething bout & think he is caught up on some horrid sleep deprivation & when I do the maths he gets about 14-15 hours in 24 hours... except that there is a fairly regular 4amish wake up, that takes about an hour of "fighting" for him to go back to sleep... it starts with him happy & then gets really wound up... I think it is that he isn't quite tired enough at bed time to get him past the 4am light sleep phase

So I want to move to 1 nap
Problem... Aiden naps at about 1.30pm, occasionally 12.30 but only if we are home & have lunch early most of our activities are say 10.30- 12.30pm, so I kind of hoped I'd have a month or 3 more before this occured

I don't think I can push to 12.30pm in one go, although he has done it on occasion after a late wakeup.

Do you nap gurus think I should cut back the am nap to 20mins or just try to push for a 12.30nap... any suggestions welcome

It certainly could be time for one nap but if you want to delay things, can you instead limit first nap to 30 minutes and hopefully that will enable you to stay on two naps for at least another month or two? If it were me I'd probably try that until you think he can make it until at least 12:30...
