16 week old nap issues
« on: June 25, 2006, 13:22:20 pm »
hi,

My 16 week old who is approx 15.5 lbs has not been napping at all well over the last few days. I am not sure but I think it may be because she is ready to be weaned (she is taking approx 8oz 4 times a day on the 4 hour routine and then more often than not eats her hands after!) She sleeps from 7.30pm to 7am without a DF which is great.

General days as they have been recently is as follows:

E - 7.30/7.45
A - until about 9:15
S - put in bed after seeing / hearing signals and she normally sleeps for about 40- 50 min

E - 11am
A - until about 12:15
S - may fall asleep from about 12:30/ 12:45 for about 45 min and then has a crying time and then quiet and doesn't really sleep again. I will try not to pick her up until at least 2:30pm. I do go on use PU/PD but doesn't really help.

E - 3pm
A - Until about 4ish
S - not much!

At about 6pm will get her up and we'll play until about 6:45 and then bath/ feed and bed.

Any ideas?

thanks for the replies!

I hope I will answer all questions which will give a clearer picture! My mind is still a bit moosh like!

We get her up when she wakes which is normally about 7:30am and then is fed within 15 minutes of wakeup/ get up. (does that make sense?) She normally eats a whole 8oz bottle (formula) and the same with all feeds. In-terms on weaning I was talking solids as I had heard that when a babies sleep pattern changes (less sleeping in nap times) as they get older and they are eating all 8oz for each feed that this could be a sign of needing to think about solids. I spoke to my health visitor and she said we could start thinking about it in a couple of weeks when she is 18 weeks.

We have a really good wind down/ bed time routine. We do bath followed by a massage and then turn the lights low and feed and then to bed. She settles really well and I know this is not an issue (at the moment (!) and not since she was about 3 weeks old) :)

I have tried settling her earlier but still she would only have a short nap, the same as when I have had her 'A' time a bit longer so not sure how to make the actual sleep time longer. Emily is a really contented baby and will lie in her cot and sometimes I think she is still sleeping but actually when I go in she is just in her cot having quiet time....If she was crying of course I would pick her up before but when just happy in her cot I don't tend to pick her up.

I am not sure if this helps to explain the situation anymore. I get confused when writing it all down.

So as you can see I am not sure where I am with her sleep time during the day at the moment

Thanks again.

I totally agree and think that maybe she is done with the napping when she wakes as she does generally rest quietly and is normally very happy. I'll extend A time and see what happnes....will start as of tomorrow as now she is sleeping soundly! (It's 9:15pm!)

I am reluctant to get her on solids right now and agree with what you say so will hold back for as long as I can. Emily I am sure will be quick to let me know when she wants food!
