Can anyone help - I have my 9 week old son on the EASY routine feeding every 3 hours, he is a big baby though and I struggle to get him to the three hours as I cannot get him into the routine of napping during the day in his cot in his room(at all) or his car seat or chair for anymore than 45 mins max here and there (this takes place about an hour after a feed and sometimes not at all), subsequently he if he does sleep its not for long and he wakes  and cries which I think is because he is overtired but he works himself up to a point where he is then hungry!!.  When I try and lay him in his moses basket in his cot during the day he fusses and cries hard - I have patted and shusshed and pu/pd but with a 21 month old to look after as well it is not always easy!  At night he is a dream though and goes down in his moses basket in his cot in his own room after his bath and feed at 7.15 no problem and then I DF him at 10.30 and move his moses basked into our room, he then goes through to 5 - 6 am the next day.

I am finding the days harder where I don't get him to sleep in the morning as he cries his way to each feed through the day.

Not sure if I should keep trying to get him to sleep in his moses basket in his cot during the day or if I should just accept that he is still young and is adapting!! I would like him to be able to settle during the day for a good period of time - anyone advice from anyone would be helped as I feel I may have accidentaly parented somewhere along the way !!!?? :-*  I know what I should be doing and I am trying but it is not working and I don't want to resort to controlled crying!!

Thanks

Your ds and mine could be related!!!!!!!!!!

My lo is now 4 months old and weighs over 18lbs (was 9lbs 15oz at birth) and whilst he slept like a dream from birth (lets skip out the teething issues!) he was never a great one for napping during the day.  I tried getting him to sleep in his crib in the bedroom by using pu/pd and pat/shush but he would never play ball.

Maybe I've wimped out but I got him a little chair that can be reclined and I let him sleep in the living room but I dip the blinds and make sure the TV is off so its fairly quiet.  He is now on 4 hour EASY but instead of one morning nap of 1.5 hours he has two of 45 mins - not ideal but it seems to work for him.

I try and watch him to pick up the signs that he is getting tired (rubbing his eyes, yawning, staring into space) before he hits overtired meltdown and if I can do that I find it is easier to quieten him down for sleep.

This probably isn't much help but at least I can send big hugs to you and sympathise fully!

Thanks for the posts back basically our day is as structured as it can be with two under two:

5-6am feed
No pattern to when he will then sleep, I try and get him back to sleep somwhere around 1 - 1.5 hours after a feed
3 hour easy throughout day (or not so easy at the case maybe!!)
Then at 6.30pm he is in the bath, top up of milk, into moses basket and asleep straight away (he goes to sleep from awake!!! at this time no worries)
10.30pm Dream Feed

I think my problem maybe that I look for the signs of when he is sleepy and then when I see them I take him upstairs and put him in his moses basket - I have tried sitting with him quietly, the blinds are closed in his room and I put on a musical melody,,,the only thing I don't do is bath him beforhand and of course he doesn't get the 'goodnight' top up of milk at this time either.
