Dreamfeed detail question
« on: July 03, 2006, 14:52:26 pm »
We have attempted the dreamfeed now with our 7 week old for 3 nights.  The first night I tried breastfeeding...no luck.  The last two night my husband has done it with a bottle (pumped milk) and she has eaten about 1 oz.  We do our last feed at about 7:30pm after a 4pm and a 6pm feed.   Two questions:

1.  If I am doing the feed myself is it ok to pick her up and sit down to feed her or will she wake up??

2.  Any ideas on how to get her to take more or is it just a matter of time?

When you say 'no luck' you mean she woke up completely or wouldn't feed at all?

I think most people do pick up their LO and sit down to feed them if they are breastfeeding. I'm not sure of an alternative unless you have very long boobs !!! Perhaps some people drop the side of the cot if they can and do something clever!

1oz is better than 0oz! Young babies do take very small quantities of breastmilk. A lot of it is a matter of time. Did she just fall asleep before finishing? You could try gently stimulating her using some of the techniques in this post:

but obviously it's a tricky one as you don't want her to be too stimulated.
