Is only taking her bottle before her sleep in her cot?
« on: July 20, 2006, 06:34:59 am »
I'm not sure why this is happening but my six and a half month old DD is only taking her bottle when i have put her in her sleeping bag into her cot - if i try to give it to her when she is up and playing she won't touch, she will only drink it when she is put in her cot?????
Has anyone else had this problem before?

My nearly 6 month old usually drinks half a feed when he's awake, then finishes the remainder an hour or so later, just before going to sleep. he obviously needs to have a break in feeding, especially now that he's taking quite big feeds.  I've just learnt to live with it.

You need to me mindful of 2 things;
1. Stating a cycle of feeding to sleep
2. Giving milk lying flat in a cot can cause ear infections.
Has this need for her to be in her cot a recent thing?

I like this question...bc my lo hasn't let me give her a bottle in almost 2 months!!! She does it herself lying down or she won't take it at all!! If i try to give it to her she just kicks and plays.. >:(
So unfortunately, i started giving it to her while in her crib too :( I know it's bad but I take it away the minute she is done and she usually doesn't fall asleep with it. :(

My DD started doing that at about the same age, we resorted to feeding her in her car seat, bouncy chair, or even the high chair in a tilted position so she wouldn't be flat on her back, then making sure she didn't fall asleep on the bottle. Every feed we would try in our arms first and then resort to other means. Eventually she stopped on her own. I'm not sure if we did the "right" thing, or if it would even work for you, but we did this when it got desperate.

It could be that she's just so distracted by life and all around her that the bottle has little interest.  When she's in her crib, it's probably quiter and less stimulating so she'll take the bottle.  My DD did this and she's a bit better now at 9MO, but still will get distracted VERY easily.  We are very careful to avoid a F2S situation and always start outside the crib.
