Reflux and infant gaviscon
« on: July 25, 2006, 15:29:18 pm »
lo is now 5 weeks.  He has been prescribed infant gaviscon yesterday 1/2 doses in his bottles.  He is at his worst in the 2am feed taking and hour or more to settle.  Last night he took 2 hours. How quickly should we see the effect of gaviscon.  Also any advice on settling him at night feeds?

My lo has had reflux since she was just a few weeks old as well.  We use previdid so I don't know anything about gaviscon, but for us putting a lift in her bed helped a lot so that she is not laying flat. We also have special formula for spit up.  You may already know this but there is a thread for acid reflux babies and there are a ton of mom's there who have babies with the same issues and may know about Gaviscon.  I hope it all gets settled.

Hi Fenella, my lo was diagnosed at 5 weeks, infant gaviscon was prescribed and took about a week to kick in.  Unfortunately it didn't last (gp said it was the worst case he'd seen) and he was prescribed infant paracetamol and Carobel powder (to thicken his feeds).  At 5mo he now only needs a quarter of the Carobel dosage in his bottles and doesn;t need the paracetamol at all - light at the end of the tunnel!

Sending you big hugs!
