Wake to Sleep Question
« on: July 26, 2006, 15:22:09 pm »
Hi, my 12 week old dd has been only napping for a maximum of 45 minutes the last couple of weeks. I want to try wake to sleep on her. Today I sat with her and waited for the jolts.  I don't think she jolted at all.  At 10 and 20 minutes she just let out a big sigh, but didn't move.  So then I went back in after 30 minutes and jiggled her a bit.  My question is, how much stirring do I want to get out of her?  Should her eyes open?  She just kind of moved her arm, so I am not sure if I woke her enough.  She woke at 45 minutes again.
Thanks for any help!

What worked for me was to get DD to stir enough to sigh and maybe turn over but not open her eyes or fully wake. I used to stroke her cheek and if that didn't work would gently pull her lovey (if she were holding it) or tickle her feet. And I'd duck just in case she opened her eyes!

Did it work today - did she keep sleeping?

Whho!  She slept for 1.5 hrs.  I am wondering if it was just luck!  At 45 mins. she let out a big cry.  I have heard this mentioned as the "phantom cry"  Does anyone know what this is and why they do it?  I will have to see how the next nap goes, because this was her morning nap and it is usually longer than the others.
Thanks

Arg!  The 2nd nap didn't go well.  I went in at 30 mins and stirred her, then 10 mins later she woke up.  I got her back to sleep with a bit of crying.  I wonder if I woke her too much with the w2s?  She has just gone to sleep again, so we will give it a try again!
