Help! new here. 12 week old and 30 min. naps
« on: July 26, 2006, 18:07:19 pm »
Hi my son has been taking the 30 min. naps for about two weeks now.  The problem is I have two other kids and everytime I try and help him my 2 year old starts yelling for me.  What has worked for others? I'm going to try the wake to sleep with this nap.  He will sleep longer if held or in his swing.  He sleeps quite well on most nights.  It is the naps that are killing me.  It is so hard to stay on the Easy.  I end up feeding him like every two hours becase his naps are so short.  Any HELP would be great.

Yes, I do swadle and use a paci.  I don't have much of a wind down routine. Change diaper and swadle and walk into his room, turn on music and then lay him down.  Some times no crying and others just a bit.

This was the first nap I had the chance to try some of the ideas I have read.  It Worked!  I read him a book then I put him down earilier at 45 min. after awake. ( seems a bit earily for 12 weeks) . He layed in his bed quiet for 25 min. then went to sleep.  At 20 min. I stired him a bit trying the wake to sleep.  Then I did the pressure/pat at the 30 min. jolt and for 10 min. after.  He is still asleep and it has been 1 1/2 hour. I can't believe it worked.

How long do I need to keep this up for before he can do it on his own?  Do I need to do every nap each day? I imagine this was luck and next time might not be as easy. Of course I had the quiet time to help him this nap as my two other kids were out.  I don't get that quiet time too often.   Thanks

Thanks for the input.  His next nap didn't work.  I put him down again at 50 min. awake with a wind down.  He went right to sleep.  At 30  min. he did the jolt two times and I did the pat/pressure.  It worked but again at 35 min. he jolted/restled around a few times and I woked through that but he did it again at 40 min and I just couldn't keep him asleep.  So I got him up for A time.  I normally feed when he wakes up but he had just eaten 1 1/2 hours ago.  So we did 45 min awake again and I just put him back down and he is fussing now.  In 30 min. he is due to eat.  Did I do the right thing by putting him down again before a feed?  He really wasn't due to eat but was due for a nap.  This isn't easy.  I will just keep working on it.  I imagine you need to adhere to the nap schedule more then the feed schedule.  It is just when they wake up to earily and aren't due to eat it throws the whole EASY off.
