how many bottles a day for 11 month old
« on: June 19, 2010, 09:39:23 am »
my lo is 11 months old and she currently has 3 bottles a day and 3 solid meals a day and some snacks. Over the last few days she has not been taking much of her second bottle and her first bottle more the second bottle she will leave about 50ml.

Her routine as such

7am wake feed bottle 200ml, drinks about 175 to 200ml if any left then put in her cereal
8.30am breakfast
10.30am sleep (45 min i wake her)
11.15am wake
11.30 lunch
12.30pm light snack
1.30pm feed bottle 200ml, but not really interested in it, only takes about 150ml
2.30pm sleep (1 hour 30 - 1 hour 45 min)
4.00pm wake
4.30pm dinner, fruit at 5pm
6.30pm bottle, and in bed by 7pm

Is this normal for my lo to be refusing her second bottle? she has yoghurt and other dairy products throughout the day, at what age is it ok to be giving less bottle, and if i do should i maybe try and give it to her in a straw cup, as she has water in her straw cup.

thanks kirsten

Hi,

we dropped to 2 bottles at about 10 months as DS was refusing the middle of the day one. As long as she gets a good dairy snack instead and has good intake at the others it sound to me as if she's ready to drop.  ;D

ok so if she has 200ml in the morning and then say 200ml at her bedtime bottle, what else can i give her throughout the day, as its the dairy she needs isnt it, not the fluid intake?

i give her yoghurt, cheese.

i tried to give her some of her lunch time bottle in a sippy cup but she refused it, so put it back in the bottle and she drank it but only about 150ml, but even giving her that was a battle, had to distract her while she drank. Can i give her some milk in a straw cup say after her lunch?

thanks kirsten

You can give her milk in what ever she will drink it in! She needs a minimum of 20oz (600ml) per day and that includes cheese and yoghurt etc. You can also give her things like rice pudding and custards and cheese sauces on things like pasta.

Even if she is only taking 150ml in the middle of the day with the two 200ml bottles + some yoghurt etc in the day she is getting what she needs. Why don't you try giving her afternoon bottle a bit closer to nap - say 2.15 instead of 1.30 so it's a bit further away from lunch. Why are you giving a snack an hour after lunch? That is probably making her less interested in the bottle. Try giving her a bit more lunch and don't give that snack, do the bottle instead.
