:)Ok, Naps are working a treat!!!  Going down between 11.15am to 12noon depending on how tired she is and sleeping for about 1hr 20mins and has slept 2hrs a couple of times so the wake to sleep thing really worked, thanks.

:'( :'(BUT - night time is a mess again. Do you think its her getting used to new nap?? Or other problem now is she isnt really eating at all - do you think this would be a factor???

Also, know this isnt really a nap thing but because I work in a childrens home and have to work overnights do you think Alia doesnt sleep when Im home cos shes checking im there??? would she be sensitive to that or am i just being paranoid???

Thanks xx

hi Alia's mum
just replyed on your other post.
i think this could be due to teething-esp if shes not eating well. are you giving any meds?
i think some regression is expected when adjusting naps (IMO)

Both could be a factor - the not eating and teething, etc. But is she only taking one nap of 1 hour 20 minutes? If so, she could also be overtired - would rather see that nap around 2 hours if possible...

Hi Karen,

The nap usually only lasts around 1hr 20 which is why I had been putting her to bed at 6pm.  However, sometimes she doesnt actually go to sleep until 7 so I am sure she is soooo tired!!

She hasnt eaten properly in days now and i still dont think she is having problems sleeping because of her teeth.  I just dont know what to do!! Im so tempted to put her to sleep later in the hope that she will just sleep through but I know that wont happen at all.

Am still working on the wake to sleep thing and she has slept a couple of times for 2 hrs I guess I just have to be patient and keep going.

Hi Alia's mom,

Just looking at your last post- sounds similar to mine. My 1-year-old is down to one nap that is too short. He wakes at 5:30 when things are good. They have been rough for a couple of weeks and I have been tearing my hair out. Because his nap is not long enough he is often overtired by bedtime It is not unusual for me to put him to bed by 5:30. Whenever I try to put him to bed later with the idea of him waking later it backfires. He eitehr wakes for a long period in the night or is up for the day at 4:30 instead. I would rather have a consistent 5:30 wake-up. Anyway, he had been out of sorts, more gassy, more reflux, biting and night-wakings for a while. Finally today I saw the tooth poking through. So, you may have some teething on your hands. Also his eating has been off which has caused him to be extra hungry at night. The other night he was up 5 times. Last night it was starting out that way then I realized he was starving and I had not milk left. Gave him a bottle and he slept 6 hours.

I know how you feel about not knowing what to do. I have been going back and forth about bedtimes and naptimes and nothing has improved. The worst is the advice I am given taht goes against my instincts (not from BW of course ;D), and the feeling I get that it is because of what I am doing. The worst is when they say "keep him up, he just doesn't need much sleep" when I know he is exhausted.

Anyway, so for going on but I know how you feel.

Hi Becky,

Sorry for delay in response but have been working back to back sleepins in work and havent had a chance to go on internet!

Thanks so much for support - Alia is still doing her thing and I so hope to see teeth soon -to make matters worse she feel on thurs night and split her lip up to her nose, needed 3 stitches and  i needed meds cos was so distraught, had to leave dad to cope with stitches as i couldnt stay in with her screaming.!!!

Am just so unsure of what to do now - even today she slept for 1 hr and half but woke so upset and wouldnt go back down even though she cried and cried for ages after..

Hope things are working better for you!!

T xx

Hi Alia's mum,

So sorry about that things are so tough! I hope your lo is okay now. I know it is so hard to deal with this sleep thing. My lo is still doing one nap of 1.25-2 hours. He still wakes often in the night although it has been a little less the past couple of nights. I am not sure about the crying after naps. I have read that it means they are still tired, although I do remember my ds#1 going through a stage like that. Aiden is still taking his nap in the morning and having an early bedtime. I really don't know how I will move his schedule because later bedtimes always seem to backfire on me. I think I will keep to this until lo gets older and can go longer before nap or takes a lonegr nap, then work on a lter bedtime and wake-up time.

I would try some advil or something before bed for a night or two just in case taht is what is affecting her night time sleep.

Keep me posted!!

Hi Becky

Well, nights are much the same but she is actually napping pretty well during the day with her one nap lasting 1hr half to 2hrs.  Still waking up at least 5 times a night and waking very early - 4.30 today!!!

Am soooo tired!!! Working shifts really doesnt help cos I dont get much sleep in work either so end up coming home more tired than before!!

anyway, thanks so much for support - im sure things will get brighter!!!  this heat is bound to be affecting her too.

Hope you are ok!

Hi Tanya,

I just saw on another thread about a very late catnap, eg 5-6 pm then bed at 8. I am starting to wonder whether DS might need a routine like that. He is generally yawning by 3:30 or 4pm (I really notice it if we go in the car). It may be risky but I really don't see things improving on our current schedule. My DS usually sleep 1.5 hrs as well and I know he is not getting enough. He is up all the time at night and I think I am starting to get run down ...oh no he's up again! Good luch tonight!

Hi Becky,

Hope your ok- I know what you mean about being run down, I am just a mess!!! That sounds great, I have often wondered about trying that but was afraid too.  It would suit so much better for her dad too cause then he could spend abit of quality time with her if she isnt struggling to stay awake!  Let me know how it goes, I'll try tomorrow but Alia is getting her 15month jabs so she may be a bit out of sorts anyway.

Will keep you posted.

Take care, thanks

Hey Tnay,

Well I haven't been able to try for the late catnap. Aiden started sleeping slightly later in the morning (sometimes only because he was up in the night) and taking his nap closer to noon. He has also been lengthening his nap to about 2 hours, at least when it does happen around midday. Then he is in bed by 6:30 or 7. He has still had some brutal nights and I think we are gearing up for another round of sleep training.

Let me know if you try the routine change and how it goes for you.

Good luck!

Becky,

Glad things seem to be a bit better for you.  Alia is definately against the short cat nap in pm, have tried a couple of times but she just screams for me to pick her up.  Her nap is now going to about 1hr 40 and the last 2 mornings she has slept a little later so fingers crossed this is the new routine!!!

will keep you posted about cat nap I still think it would work wonders if I can just convince her to take it!!
