I've been bwing for at least two months now and he now goes to sleep great in his cot for naps and at bedtime, but I just cannot get him to consistently take long naps. If I don't intervene he'd take 45 min naps every time. W2S used to work most of the time but now is more than likely not working and recently it'll actually wake him up fully from his nap and once he's awake it's impossible to get him back. He's a very spirited boy and has never slept through the night - he wakes hungry at least once in the night. Our routine looks something like this - though it's different every day.
Between 6 and 7 am Wake and breast feed
Solid breakfast half an hour to an hour after bf
Nap 2 to 2 1/2 hours after waking up - watch his cues.
At best this morning nap is 1 hour long, but these days it's usually 45 mins.
Depending on when he wakes - his next feed is around 11 - 11.30 and he'll have a bit of milk (he never drinks much milk here) and then his solid lunch.
Timing of his afternoon nap again depends on when he woke from morning nap, but I tend to try for 3 hours of A time.
Afternoon nap - again I struggle to make this longer than 45 mins.
I give him a bf at 2.30 - 3pm and solids at 4pm
He'll have a cat nap around 5 for 30-45 mins
Then bath, bf and bed - he's usually asleep by 7.30.
Dream feed at 11
Then usually 2 night time wakes for food - around 2.30 ish and around 5 ish.
I've always struggled to get him to eat during the day - he's too interested in everything else to give it the time - though he does love solids.
Should I just accept that he's just not a long napper and stop killing myself trying to get him to nap - 2 months of trying to get him to nap feels like a long time and every day it doesn't work ends up making me feel like a failure.
Am I doing something wrong?
Any advice gratefully received. Thanks in advance.
