Help - Nighttime sleep
« on: August 13, 2006, 16:30:51 pm »
Hi All,

My DS is 4 1/2 months old and is on 4 hour EASY.   In the last week or so, he has started sreaking when he is awake and durng naps.  Also he has started to wake at 4am and he has broken out of his swaddle.  He wakes up sreaking not crying.  I have to get up and re rap him up and then he wakes again sreaking at 5am and then at 6am.  I try to see if he can settle himself but he does not.   We finnally get up at 7am.  His naps are all messed up as well.  He wakes up at the hour mark and starts crying.  I have to go in an shh/pat and give him his soother and I have to do that 2 or 3 times in about 30 mins to get him to go back to sleep.  I have tried getting him up when he wakes at the 2hour mark, but he can only last about 15 mins and then wants to go back to sleep.   He wants his 1st nap at 8am after only being up for an hour.  So when he wakes at 10 he only lasts a few mins and wants to go back to sleep but he can't get back to sleep.  URG!!  I am getting frustrated becasue I am not sure what to do.  I want to try PU/PD but I am nervous to try it.   I have tried to go back to the 3 hour easy but he doesn't want to eat.  He sometimes doesn't even want to eat at the 4 hour mark.  Here is his EASY plan.  Any suggests on how to handle the night time would be great.  He always slept until 6am until the last week or so. He is formula feed.  I tought it might be gas but I have been using grip water and he is burping fine.  He seems to want to have 45-1hour cat naps and then get up for 1/2hour and then nap again.

E- 7am - 8oz
A- swing/toys
S- 8am - nap (rubbing eyes, yawning) wakes up 2 or 3 times during nap might get 2 2/12 hours off and on
E- 11am - 8oz
A- Play
S- 12pm - nap (rubbing eyes, yawning) wakes up 2 or 3 times during nap might get 2 2/12 hours off and on
E- 3pm 8oz
A- play
S- 4 or 4:30 - 5 or 5:30
A- play Bath cuddles
E- 6:30 8oz  then off to bed goes down without a problem.
E-DF 10:30 5oz

wakes first time at 4am then 5 and 6 up at 7am.

Help please!!!

Are you feeding at night in addition to the dreamfeed? If not, then I suspect that he might be hungry when he wakes at 4am, especially since he keeps waking after that. Even if he didn't need another feed before, he very well might now. As for the eating... don't be afraid to adjust things a bit if his eating needs are different than the typical routine. I always did more of an AEAS with my DS due to his needs.

You also might try the Aussie swaddle if he's having trouble with the regular. There is information and instructions in the props forum that you can check out.
