How should I respond??
« on: August 13, 2006, 19:45:36 pm »
DD is 9 months old.  She started solids at 6 months.  For the last 2-3 weeks she has started this thing where she'll open her mouth wanting food, we put it in and then she blows it everywhere.  Most often it starts halfway or towards the end of her meal.  I don't know if I should ignore it, or try to firmly say no.  Also, sometimes I think it's her way of saying she doesn't want anymore, but sometimes she does it from the start of the meal.  The funny thing is that she'll keep opening her mouth like she's wants food.  She thinks it's funny.  Any advice on how to respond to this behavior?

OOOH Man , I used to find this mega annoying!! I remember this phase well with DD#1 and DS does it too. What I have been doing/did, is completely ignoring it and trying my best not to let it wind me up  ::). I put a plastic sheet down on the floor under the high chair and gritted my teeth until it passed!! It seems to be letting up with DS now. I think its just them exploring food and things they can do with their mouths , so didn't really do anything to try and stop it.
Of course when this one passes you then get the throwing of food everywhere!! I took that to mean dinner was over!!

OOOh yes we had that here too!!

Best thing to do is not react as hard as it is.. I used to sit there covered in whatever it was I was trying to feed William.. desperate not to laugh or get cross... and the less I reacted the less he seemed to do it.

It passed eventually - like most challenges do with our LOs.
