What kinds of pasta?

Hi there,
I want to start my 9 1/2 mo.-old son on some pasta.  Does anyone have any suggestions?  He is really not into finger foods mostly because he hates lumps.  Should I start with tiny stuff like alphabet pasta and work my way up?  Any ideas are very welcome.

That is exactly what I did; I bought a special baby pasta called pastina at a specialist Italian deli, it was almost the size of rice and gradually worked my way up. She is now on macaroni.

Yes go with the pastina if you can find it, Barilla do several different varieties. Couldn't find it here so finally got dd to eat pasta at about 14 months and she never did lumps well, use "fagiolini lisce" and they are quite small, if using normal pasta I would over cook it so it's very soft and slips down easily, dd is disgusted at how long I cook it for dd, certainly not "al dente"  ;D

I've just used normal pasta then whizzed it up in the coffee grinder - that seems to work! Also he likes to have a whole piece of fusilli as a finger food - it's twistiness means it's pretty easy to hold!

I got some great tri-coloured alphabet pasta at the health food store.  They are whole wheat (brown colour) beet (red colour) and spinach (green colour) pasta.  They are delicious adn a much healthier choice.  I puree spinach and carrots and add them to the pasta with some butter.  DS loves it.  I have also added bortolli beans and white kidney or navy beans mushed up for protein with the pasta.  Italian pasta makers La Molisana or Del Verde (sold at most supermarkets) make regular white pasta and the two kinds that are nice as they are tiny, tiny and mush up and ball together so it is easier on the spoon are:  Stellene (star shaped) and our fave: Pepperini (small ball shaped.)  Buon Appetitto!
