Help please
« on: August 17, 2006, 20:04:03 pm »
I have a beautiful 10 month old daughter, who unfortunately has always bf to sleep for her naps, now that I am starting to wean her, and she is down to three feeds a day, she no longer seems able to nap. I have tried walking her in her buggy for two hours, and resorted to driving her around in the car for an hour with no luck. She has never napped well during the day, but has always slept really well (at least 11 hours) at night. However, I am so worried that she is not getting enough daytime sleep. I tried putting her in her cot the other day, but after an hour and half gave up!! All she wanted to do was stand up and it made her cry really hard, How do I get her to take a nap??? She isn't cranky but is obviously tired (rubbing her eyes). I would appreciate anyones help on this as it is starting to upset me alot :(

Two great places to start, if you haven't already, would be by reading the FAQ section here and also Tracy's book - especially Baby Whisperer Solves All Your Problems.

At 10 months old, you'll definitely need to stop feeding to sleep and certainly don't want to have to walk or drive your DD to sleep all the time either. How long is your DD awake for before you put her down for a nap? Does she have a pacifier? Do you dim the room? Do you use white noise and have a wind down routine?

Hi there,

Thanks for the response, will certainly look through the fao and the book.  She is generally awake for about 3 to 3.5 hours. She gets up around 7 and feeds, then her next feed was 10.30. However, even on this one she wasn't going to sleep.  She would then nap in the car, if we were going out around 11ish but then that would be it until 6.30ish when she would fall asleep on her last feed. She then has her nappy changed and a story and in her cot for 7 and she falls asleep her self within minutes.  I have tried darkening her room, cuddling and having quiet time, reading her a story (same as her bed time)nothing seems to work, she just wants to play. She is overall a very happy, content baby.
