anyone have a LO like this?!
« on: August 24, 2006, 01:00:54 am »
I just thought I'd post here because I wasn't sure where else to do it.  I don't even know that i specifically need advice but I just cannot figure out my 6 mo old!  I have posted on other sites throughout the past few months and have gotten some help with things I've needed it on but I think he's just always going to be a mystery...
I just don't see a lot of consistency.  We do follow EASY although it's more EASAE...He will be awake 1.5/2 hours and take a 1.5 hour nap.  Then I wait until it's been 4 hours to feed him.  I try to keep the feeds the same every day.  Sometimes he needs a catnap, sometimes not.  He usually doesn't wake for a feed at night but once in a while he does around 3-4am.  He is pretty much totally content whenever he's awake and if we're out he is able to stay awake without being overtired bothering his sleep when he gets home.
It is just that I can't really look at the day and know exactly what it will be like.  I try to see it as an adventure instead of something I need to control.  We definately have our routine and he's always had cues that are difficult to follow as far as being tired.  But if he is not tired yet and I try to lie him down he screams wheras if he's tired he'll fuss a couple minutes to sleep.  Thankfully I've learned better how to clockwatch and we're pretty accurate with naps now.  He goes to bed and wakes in the morning at the same time pretty much each day so it's not totally up in the air.
DOes anyone have a confusing LO like this?  Don't know what the day will look like?  And he usually wakes from naps either crying or happy for like 3 minutes before fussing.  Feel like you're kind of guessing your way through the day?  We have had some nursing issues and he's just switched to bottle only.  I pumped for a couple weeks but just couldn't keep up ( have a 22 month old, too!).  So maybe that all plays into it.
As I mentioned, I don't have a problem with this but just wonder if there are other moms out there with kids like this.  My ds1 was so textbook.  Not only with when he learned new things, etc., but even as far as the "rules" like put them to bed earlier to help them sleep longer.  DS2 doesn't seem to fit into any of that.  It's just more like watch for his cues and figure them out.  Guess I enjoy that he's a bit more portable.  Just seems like any books I read about sleep don't seem to necessarily fit him.  Any others out there like that...

hi
my ds is the same way.  he is 4 months old and everyday is different...and it is starting to drive me crazy.  it wouldn't be so bad if it was just him and me, but i have a 2 year old as well.  i feel awful and guilty becasue i am always trying to read his cues and miss alot of time with ddor i feel like we can't go anywhere.  he eats about every 4 hours but sometimes he is hungry in 2 or 3.  his napping isn't very good, only about 45 minutes.  i am really trying to get on the EASY track.  we are working on it  i really hope things fall into place soon!!!!  i CAN say he has a consistent bedtime and sleeps pretty good at night.  he may wake 1 time anywhere from 4-6.  he likes to sleep in in the morning, but i am stopping that and waking him about 7/7:30 (we just started this) and hopefully this will help to get on track with things.
so, i just wanted to let you know you are the only one with an unpredictable day! :o
i hope things get better for you!!! ;)
