To continue to swaddle or not
« on: August 25, 2006, 12:38:55 pm »
DD (almost 5 months old) woke up really early today and therefore was exhausted by nap time (she usually has a 9am nap, but feel asleep at 8:15am...she woke at around 5:30).  I laid her in her crib to look at her mobile and her turtle to allow her to lay down for a few minutes. When I came back in she was half asleep. I quickly turned off all the lights, turned on her fan and with her paci she fell right to sleep on her own.  She is usually only swaddled during naps. Since she did this on her own should I continue with not swaddling or should I swaddle for the next nap. I wasn't sure if just not swaddling all at once would be too much of a shock for her.

Thanks.
Melissa

I went in to do W2S and she was awake, so I ducked out of the way.  She is now in there talking to herself.  she never did that while being swaddled.  She would just sleep for 2 hours straight in the am.  Does this make a difference?  I am sure she will start fussing and crying soon...she usually does when talking to herself.

Thanks.

You are going to think I am ridiculous.  I may just answer my own question.  Well, I peeked in and she was playing with her toes and rolling about.  I decided to get her up and change her diaper, which I am glad I did because it wasn't sure urine.  I ended up swaddling her because I knew there was no way she would settle now.  She has too much fun playing with her feet and sliding down the crib slope we have.  Because she was overstimulated and overtired it took awhile to get her to sleep, but she did it.  I think I may keep the swaddle for now.  I would still love swaddle/nap advise if you have any.

lol, Melissa, too funny! I took a peek at your post and oops, all the replies were yours! ;)

and you know, I started thinking about swaddling my dd again after today's and yesterday's early morning wake ups so that she wouldn't be able to roll over when in swaddle, but... I think she would really hate it, she hasn't been swaddled for two months or so now... what do you think?

I wonder if since she hasn't been swaddled for so long that it may have an opposite effect.  I think once they get use to all these new things and start getting bored with the rolling, feet, etc.(not sure if or when that would happen) things hopefully will settle down.  I don't know.  Hopefully, someone will be able to help us out.  Things are just so crazy lately because of the wakings so it's a hard call.
