different age groups to please.
« on: August 22, 2006, 21:33:29 pm »
My DS is five and quite a forward and bright little boy and he needs stimulating, as all kids do, but quite good stimulation IYKWIM.  He likes things like techniquest, museums, places of interest etc, don't get me wrong, he's not a geek he loves football and playing and riding his bike and lots of other things too, but to take him out for the day, or to stay indoors, I am finding it really difficult to please him and I feel that I am failing him, as I am managing all the other children that I care for with no problems , but he is constantly bored, it is coming to the end of the school holidays, and I neverr thought I'd hear myself say this but I really can't wait for school to start again as I know that he has plenty to do there.  During the holidays we have visited a few places which he has enjoyed, I take mondays off and dedicate that day to him, so we go places that he wants to go, although I still have to drag Alex along too, but what about the days that I am childminding, like tomorrow, I have a 12 month baby boy, Alex 19 months, a 3 year old little girl and Nathan 5 yrs.  We have done things like making and playing with playdough, making cakes, playing football (he loves this, but I am the only one who can kick the ball with any strength so the little ones lose interest and I end up having to chase those around and then we get it again "You never play with me blah blah blah" and I admit, I am always busy and I try to give him things to do, but he just wants me to do them with him.

So, enough about me moaning, what can I do with them all that will stop DS accusing me of ignoring him, it breaks my heart as I try so hard to please them all, they all need my attention for different reasons and I just wish I could tear myself into little pieces and give them all a bit!

Is he not into being Mom's helper?  I could see that he could tire of it, but maybe if you put him in charge of some of the stuff for the littler ones he'd like it better?  I've been thinking, but haven't come up with anything brilliant -- if you post on preschoolers and beyond, perhaps someone there with an older child could give you some suggestions.  I'm sorry to not be of more help!

i was kind of thinking the same thing as Erin!  things like making sandwiches or even cookies that some of the los you care for could appreciate as well or maybe he could organise something that the bigger ones could do, like an obstacle course or could think of a craft or next time he could help mix up the playdough....

Well, we did crafts, he made playdough, he just says he's bored of everything, so this week my friend told me about Playscheme.  He has been 3 times this week to a local council run playscheme and has had a whale of a time, he played football the whole time he was there and has met loads of new friends.  I am so sorry that I didn't know about it earlier.  Thanks ladies, for all your help, but I knw where he is going to spend the next hollidays!

No Erin, that's not true, you were a great help.  In fact, afte playscheme on Friday he helped with a 'Picnic in the Playroon' and laid out all the food for the younger ones.  Thank you so much for your suggestions ladies.  Playscheme broke the last (nightmare) days of the school holidays and he will  certainly got to playscheme sometimes next holidays, but £6 per day is a bit much every day so I will have to find little jobs to relieve his boredom some of the time.
He's back to mixing playdough next week though as playscheme has finished now and we still have 1 week to go. Wish us luck.  I just thing that the summer holidays can be long sometimes for them.
thanks again
