When to introduce meats?
« on: August 27, 2006, 14:36:12 pm »
LO will be 8 months tomorrow (he's almost 35 weeks). When do I introduce meats?

Also, would LOVE some new fruit/veggie ideas too. LO has reacted poorly to several foods - i think due to his severe gassiness he's had since birth - so I'm reluctant to try new veggies especially. We jsut finished trying peas, and LO was just awful on them. We've just now finally gotten them out of his system after about 4 days (he was only on them 2!).

Things he CAN'T eat:
peas
pears
green beans
any grains

Things he CAN eat:
peaches
bananas
avocado
sweet potato (both white and red varieties)
squash

Any other suggestions welcome! I'd prefer some new veggies, because I still have some fruit ideas (apples, mango, watermelon)

Annabel Karmel says chicken 6-9 months and other meats 9-12 months

How about carrots?  Zucchini?  lentils?  (not sure about the beans, though.... doesn't sound like you've had much luck with them so far)

Broccoli and cauliflower are probably not good ideas due to the gassy nature of them.

Don't think I was much help there  :-\

Have you checked with your pediatrician as to when they sugest to start meats?  My pediatrician says to start introducing meats at 8 months.  (White meats (chicken, turkety, etc.) first then dark meats (beef, lamb, etc.))
In terms of new veggie ideas....how about asparagus, tomatoes, pumpkin, eggplant, parsnip, rutabaga or spinach?
For fruit, I've recently tried cherries and will be trying cantaloupe, nectarines, and apricots

asparagus is definitely gassy (b/c it was one I really wanted to do!) Tomatoes are OK, even though acidy? I don't think my Super Baby Food book suggests it this early. Parsnips might be OK, though, as is pumpkin I'm sure. Forgot about Pumpkin!
