help in the middle
« on: August 29, 2006, 00:36:51 am »
HI, my 12 week old has been on EASY for several weeks now.  He sleeps through the night but continues to struggle with his naps.  He is fairly easy to get down initially but he wakes up between 45 min and 1 hour mark.  I have sat with him and it isn't a jolt that . wakes him but just wakes up.  On a rare occasion I can shh/pat him back to sleep without lifting him up.  But most of the time I have to pick him up and start my shh/pat routine and put him down again. He cannot go back to sleep by himself...never has been able to.  He will just get upset if I leave him alone for a while.  And if he does get upset then it is a bear to get him back to sleep. He then needs to be woken up for his feed.  I have no idea how much longer he would go with his nap.  So, I have a sort of 45 min napper but he will go back down again with help.  My question is do you know what is going on?  Will he evenually grow out of it?  And what about the whole idea of him going to sleep on his own...am I hindering that development?

Another question:  I have my LO on a 3hour 15 min schedule.  I am starting slow to get him ready for the 4 hr routine in a few weeks.  I know he could handle 3 1/2 hour EASY (in terms of eating) now but I don't think he could handle that much more "A" time.  Then of course there is the nap problem above.  Should I wait a bit longer to extend the EASY?

Thank u!

sorry, forgot to add another question:
when should I start thinking about going over 31/2 hours?  when is it too early and why?  Should I just stay at 3hr 15min until 4months as he is doing just fine....ya know, "if it aint broke don't fix it"?
