Is this a growth spurt?
« on: September 14, 2006, 21:31:28 pm »
Hi
my Lo is 4.5 months old, on 4 hour EASY.  Here's his 'ideal' day:
7:00  E
        A
9:45  S
11:00 E
        A
12:45 S
3:00  E
        A
4:45  S 30-1hr
E when wake, usually around 530
       A and bath
       E top off
       S 8:00
      df 11:00
yesterday (Wednesday) he woke early (at 6)after sleeping all the way through (Tuesday night)
so the times were off a bit, but basically the same.
I guess it may be important that he woke from catnap at 4:15 and then had a brief 20 min catnap about 7:15, then bath and bed by 8:30.  I did df at 10:45, did with breast first time, took a good feed

woke at 2, was hard to settle and had a 'cough cry' so I fed him
woke at 5, same thing, fed him
woke at 6 tried to settle, fed at 6:30 to start the day

the night before that (Monday)he had woken at 9:30, gave him some Nurofen (before bed he seemed to be struggling with gums)and he slept all the way through til 6:30, and I fed him at 6:45,
the night before that (Sunday)he had woken at 2,hard to settle so fed at 3, woke at 5 fed at 6 and again at 6:50 because he wouldn't resettle.

Not sure if all that is important, just wanted to include to help you see where we're coming from?
Think he has started teething, but last night the wakes did not seem to me to be teething related.

Is this a growth spurt? He doesn't seem any more hungry during the day, and his naps have gone well.

Hope someone can help
Kristi

Hi Kristi,

Not sure if it's a growth spurt or not - does he always eat so much at night, or is that recent? Are you BFing, bottle feeding, or both?

Your A times are rather long for his age in the morning and the evening, you might need some adjusting there.

whoops I made a mistake.  His first nap is at 8:45.  He can usually do 1hr45min awake time, we're trying to slowly work up to 2 hours.
He usually sleeps through, if he wakes it's usually at 6, we start the day at 7, but if he just won't go back to sleep we start at 6:30 or 6:45
He is breastfed.
The last awake time is longer, because he usually doesn't seem tired until then.

Oh whew! 8:45 makes a lot more sense! I was like  :o  ???

I think it's a growth spurt then. If it continues after another few days then let me know and we'll look at other possibilities. Many LOs have a growth spurt around 4 mo so that seems logical, especially with the eating at night.

Actually, haven't been 'home' since Feb.2005 when my sis got married.  Used to come home every summer and Christmas (I've lived overseas 8 years now) but it's expensive!  And my husband is Slovak so we like to have Christmases together here too.  However, now that I have Kubko, I really miss my family and would like to go atleast once a year.  Hard for DH to understand sometimes, but he's going to have to.  Actually, my sister is a flight attendant so when we fly we can use her buddy passes, but it means flying standby, which is sometimes stressful.  And with a baby... but actually she just called me and that's what we're doing next week!  My mom was buying the tickets and waited too long and they got really expensive (ofcourse) so now we're flying standby, but the flight looks pretty vacant, so hopefully...
Maybe if I have time when I'm there we could meet up...

Wow, it really is a small world! If you have a little free time definitely send me a PM or something and we'll see if we can get together. There's another mom on here that lives fairly near me so maybe I'll give her a heads up in case she would like to join.

But don't feel obligated - I know how busy trips like that can get.  ;)
