4mo old stillwaking through the night
« on: September 22, 2006, 00:31:42 am »

hello my son is on the regular schedule at 4months that is written in the book. he usually takes 3- 2 hour naps but around 45 min he will wake and i will give him the paci and he goes back to sleep for another hour. he usually eats 6-7 ounces at feeding time 7, 11, 3, 7 and 1030 (takes about 4 ounces). he gets cereal for bf and dinner.
right now he goes to bed at 730-8. i give him a bath and massage and then read him a book and give him his paci and goes to sleep. i was worried he was addicted but if i take it out after five min in his beginning sleep he is fine.last night he woke up at 2 am and then 5am. i gave him his paci and then back to sleep. ANY IDEAS WOULD BE APPRECIATED?
ONLY TWO NIGHTS HAS HE EVER SLEPT 10-4. OTHERWISE IT IS USUALLY TWICE OR THREE TIME A NIGHT.
i think he is getting sufficient food and naps. he has always woke up atleast twice.
how can i help him sleep all the way through?
Thank you, MONICA

Actually, two wakings at 4 months is pretty average. Not what you want to hear I'm sure, but it's true. Do you dreamfeed? Is there another feed in the night?

Usually 4 months is a rough period with sleeping because LO starts some developmental things like rolling. Any signs yet?

Does he really take 3 - 2 hour naps, or is that a typo?  If he is getting 6 hours of sleep during the day he might be getting too much.  Also, you said you reinsert the paci and he goes back to sleep.  Is he dependent on the paci to get to sleep?  4 months is when my ds became really dependent on it and we had to take it away, and I know other moms on the boards have found that too.

hi ladies! thanks for the help. actually the last two nights he slept until 4:30 am. I give him a dreamfeed at 10:30 usually and I don't feed him until 7am. He is getting cereal for bkfst and lunch and drinking about 30 oz of milk so i think he's eating enough. He is already 17.5 pounds.  i gave him the paci this am and he slept until 6am and then I started his day. I am trying for 7am so we'll see. He got his 4 mo shots yesterday so he's sleepy today. I've only let him suck the paci for 5-10 min and pulling it out and he doesn't reawaken during his naps lately. so hopefully i can keep him from becoming too dependent on it. he took at hour evening nap yesterday so 2-two hour naps and 1 hour nap. i think that has helped the night waking. it only took a couple days and now he isn't waking as much. cross my fingers it will continue. he isn't actually 4 mo. until the 1st.

thanks again! I'm going to keep an eye on the prop dependency. he goes to daycare starting next week 3 days and i told her it is only to be used for naps and to pull it out once he is relaxed and half asleep........we'll see.......to be continued.
