Baby HATES riding in car! HELP!!!

I have a three month old boy who hates riding in the car.  He's a touchy baby, so I'm sure that has something to do with it.  He doesn't mind being in his car seat in general, but the second the car door shuts he starts screaming hysterically.  His pacifier doesn't seem to help much.  I've tried music, fresh air, pictures and things to look at.  Sometimes if one of his siblings sits next to him and talks to him, he'll be quiet for a while.  Mostly, though he just screams.  This is just killing me, since we spend about an hour or two per day in the car driving to school and back.

Unfortunately I can't offer advice but I can sympathize.  My boy is 3.5 months and has always hated the car.  I spend my life driving around with screaming from the back seat.  It really limited my mobility for his first two months.  I chose not to go out rather than endure the crying.  Now I have just given up.  He cries no matter what point we are in his EASY routine.  He rarely falls asleep and if he does it is only for 20 minutes at the most.  He doesn't mind the car seat because we can be at friends' homes and put him to sleep in the car seat.  As soon as you put the car seat in the vehicle the waterworks start.  If you find a miracle cure please let me know.

my gina was like that.. she would scream for a whole car trip no matter what we did-- i remember one night i had both girls for 2 1/2 hours by myself and gina cried(screamed) the entire time.. we just cranked the music so i could concentrate on driving (lullabyes  ) and as we pulled onto our street she fell asleep!!!

with that said she loves the car now!!she is two.. you dont have to wait that long she grew out of it around five months or so... it does get better.. i promise you!!
hang in there and try to keep your drives in the car as short as possible.. and when you are out shopping if you can get a sling.. then he can sleep in that while you shop.. the best investment i made for my touchy baby

My daughter was the same way until she was about 5 months.  I would even take her out when my husband was driving.   Now she is 7 months and she doesn't mind that much.  I try to give her toys that she likes and she is usually fine.

Oh can I sympathize!!!  I thought I was gonna die. Any time friends or family rode with us, I was always apologizing b/c she would cry constantly. It did get better though! I think around 6 months she began to settle down a bit.

The DVD idea sounds good to me.  Unfortunately at 3.5 months we already have a TV addict on our hands.  If I put him on the floor to go to the bathroom or something I come back and he will have wriggled or rolled around so he can see the TV.  If I am burping him he twists as far as he possibly can to see the TV.  I keep telling myself it is making him really smart because of all the words he hears:)

yep we had a car hater too! It does get better I promie, as stacy said when they can use their hands they keep themselves busy!
When I was desperate i'd put the music on REALLY loud (to drown the crying heehee) and he usually would go quiet! Alternatively, try hanging soem toys from the hand rail thing above the door so he ahs somethign to stare at. HAng in there!

my babygirl did that from the time we started to take her in the car! however we had just moved, decided driving would be easier, 3000miles with a child who doesnt like it.. she got used to me sitting in the back with her.. so when i changed the carseat to a new one, i only sit in the front, b/c she can see me now.. but she freaks out too.. not as much now but still not good!
but what is weird, she only does it when i am in the passangers side, if i drive i dont hear a beep outta here, except her talkin/blabbering..

I have the same problem with my 2month old.  I am so glad to see I am not the only one and that it gets better.  I try to avoid the car as much as possible.  I want to also mention my DS is not a fan of the stroller either

I reckon u should do lots more car trips instead, get LOs used to being in the car
