please help, naps getting shorter
« on: September 28, 2006, 17:30:40 pm »
I think i have about 5 min to write this before my LO wakes up again.  He is now waking up 30-35 min for naps!  He is also very difficult to get back to sleep and sometimes I am not at all successful.  He used to be very easy to shh/pat back to sleep (we always pick him up to do it because he looks at us like we are crazy when we try it when he is lying down in the crib)....I am sure we have a prop there!  We have tried wake to sleep but it doesn't work for him.  He'll wake up anyways.  He generally does not wakes up unhappy, but he is cranky early during his A time.  What can I do?!?!?!?!?

My lo will be 4 months at the end of this week.  He is presently on a 3.5 hr EASY...we are moving tomorrow so we thought we would wait t'ill after we moved to move him to a 4 hr EASY.  He is very large 21.5 lbs and would easily move to 4 hrs b/w feeds but will likely struggle with increased A time.  He has also coincidentally gotten more cranky...I am assuming he still needs that extra sleep.???
I usually rock in a rocking chair or bounce gently on a ball and shh/pat or sing/pat (cause I am sick of shhing!) until his eyes are closed. So, just when he falls asleep.  Then I put him down.  He often half wakes when I put him down so he needs shhing and sometimes a paci.  This whole process usually only takes about 5 min., then i sit with him for the 20min.  But when he wakes after 30-35min I often have to sit in the rocker for 15min before he even closes his eyes completely....he fights napping like it's his job even though he is obviously still tired sometimes.
Another question: how do I introduce more A time when he seems to struggle with the time he has now....ie moving to 4 hr EASY
Gracias!
