Catnaps for 5 week old - 4th day on EASY
« on: November 13, 2006, 00:00:46 am »
Hi,

I started following the EASY routine for my 4.5 week old on Friday last week. Last night, she ended up being awake from 5pm until after her last cluster feed at 9pm. I settled her to bed at 10 (and it took until 11:30). My concern is during this time, the recommended schedule for a 4 week old recommends two cat naps - we did put her down in her basinette while we ate dinner, but is it realistic for a LO this young who need shh/pat to get to sleep to be having cat naps? The only time she comes close to such cat naps is when she falls asleep during a feed (breastfeeding, she's a sleepy feeder).
I think this is more a nap issue, so I've posted it here. If it's an EASY issue, I can post the question in the appropriate forum.

Thanks!
Kirsty

Hi,
My LO had problems with the catnap when we started also.  I was told by Stacy the nap moderator that these are freebies and get them anyway you can--it doesn't have to be in the crib or bassinet.   So I tried to take a nice walk in the stroller each afternoon to get my LO to sleep and it worked.  I also plan errands in the car around this time (she will always sleep in the car/her carseat).  Now with the time change where I live, it is dark during her catnap time so we don't do our walk then, but she is so used to the routine, she will now take the nap in her crib.

I am not sure about the second catnap because we started at 8 weeks when it is supposed to be dropped so we never did it!

HTH,

Jodi

Hi there - hope you don't mind me adding on here - but I have just the same question!! My LO is 5 weeks and the evenings are the hardest time to get him to nap I find.

By freebies, do you mean I could put him my Baby Bjorn for 30-45mins (he always sleeps there  ;)) rather than in the bassinet, as he just lies there awake or cries??

thanks!!

Yes,
In the Baby Bjorn, the car, a stroller...any way you can get them to take it!  That way they can get through their meal and to bed!  I had that problem...it would take me 30-40 minutes at first to get her down to sleep and nap time would be over.  Since I was told that on the nap boards, we have done it in the stroller and now I can do it in her crib no problem!

Good luck!
