Transition to One Nap
« on: November 14, 2006, 13:01:48 pm »
Hi again.  Y'all solved our problems last time, maybe you can again this time.   :)

We have a 13 month old spirited boy.  We have had enough of fighting him on the second nap of the day, so we decided to attempt the transition to one nap.  The first couple days went great.  He took his nap between 11:00 and 12:30, we put him to bed at night a little earlier, and he slept a little later in the morning.  We are slowly putting him down for his nap later and later.  But yesterday, he woke up after only a 50 minute nap.

Question:  During the transition, if he only takes a 50 minute nap, should we also attempt a second nap later?  Or is that going to confuse the issue and make it worse in the long run?  He usually is fine without that second nap, albeit a little grumpy.  The thing is, he sometimes ends up waking at night from having been overtired...

Thanks.

Yesterday might have been a fluke. Also, you might be putting him down too late if he's waking after only 50 minutes. I wouldn't rush pushing the nap later and later - I'd say anything after 11am is great at his age! Depending on his morning wake time, maybe try to keep the nap at 11:30 for now and see if you can get at least 2 hours from him? Also, you should join the chat about the 2-1 nap switch at the top of this forum for even more help!
