« on: November 17, 2006, 05:50:10 am »
hi
heres my dilemma my soon to be 6mth old (born 28May) has staarted to sleep terribly during the night..its been about 5 days now..it started with her waking frequently for a paci pop in. every hour to two in the night. she has had a runny nose which i gave her dimetapp and some panadol to help. its 85% better now her nose that is.

3days ago she slep from 7pm to 9.30, then slept till 2am waking and staying up for 2hrs.. then back to sleep at 4 till 7.30am..
i usually only feed her once at around 12.30- 1am. she takes a full feed then.

2days ago she didnt fall asleep till 9pm! then woke at 2.30feed, then slept till 6.30am so not too bad...

but last night.....went like this... she was up from 2pm in the afternnon till 6.20pm which i put her down for the night as she was exhausted! woke at 9.30 hungry? so feed.. woke at 12.30 so feed and stayed wide awake till 4am!!!!!!help. then went to sleep till 7.30am....

(((HUGS)))Our routine went NUTS when my LO was 6mo. as well.... she first started with early waking, 1hr before her usual wake up time + terrible napper. Then night wakings..... just like your LO, my LO woke up around 2:30 and stayed awake for 1.5-2hr!
Have you tried to extend her A time a little bit? My LO could stay awake for 2-2.5hr when she was 6mo. Now she's 7mo, her A time is between 2.5-3hr.
Just a thought.... hope this will help ;)

A few things jump out at me... I think that you need to be on a 4 hour EASY, consistently. Like litomi says, A time probably needs to be extended.

It sounds like the paci has become a prop. At this point it's time to decide if you want to do something about it or deal with the related wakings. If you haven't already, check out the props board for some ideas on how to get rid of it if that's what you decide to do.

Is it possible that she's teething?

Hi -

I don't know if you're still giving dimetapp but when my dd took it she was WIDE AWAKE for hours in the middle of the night!  She was running laps around her crib and doing gymnastics.  Not amusing!!!

Just thought I'd mention that!

Melissa, I totally agree.... sometimes medications tend to make our LO funny. I guess those chemicals just disturb their sleep ???

Is she really upset in the middle of the night, having just had a cold I'd be wondering if she has an ear infection... long awake times for my 2 boys have nearly always been due to ear infections

thanks everyone!
she seems to have settled down a bit at least she's not having any more 2 or 3 hour awake times in the middle of the nite. but she is still waking due to the darn paci! and we are also having problems settling her.. ive also tried to extend her A time, i think its helping she had 1x 45min nap , 1x 1.5hr nap and 1x45min nap yesterday....
