Should a 4.5 month baby be on a 2 holes teat?
« on: November 14, 2006, 16:37:33 pm »
My lo is still using the medium flow teats (Avent, 2 holes). Do you think I should change to the 3 holes?
I've tried the 3 holes and he seems to spit a bit but he does so even with the 2 holes, just less I guess.
What do you think?

It is really your decision based on how you observe your LO's drinking.

If you feel that your Lo is bored and having to suck too hard (and giving up, resuly in lengthy feeds) then change to a faster flow.

If when you change to a faster flow your LO gags, splits up milk whilst drinking, etc then the faster flow is too much as that time and you would have to try again.

Thanks,

I think I may try to enlarge on of the 2 holes, just thought of that now.
Anyway, thanks!

Hi Dani,

You could also try just adding an extra hole to the teat you are using.  Using a steralised needle.

My LO is breastfed but gets an occasional bottle. I tried Avent 3, but he seems to drown in it, so we are still on 2, even though he's 5 months old.

thanks paula,

but then, it would become a 3 hole teat, which I tried and seems too much for my lo...
do you think if I add a hole myself to the 2 hole one it would still be slower than the 3 hole ones?

Sorry about the confusion.

If you are using a pin, it would be a smaller hole, so may be a bit better for your lo.

You can only try and see how you get on.

Thanks Paula, I'll try.

And Gabi - unfortunately my lo breastfed for a short time due to low milk supply and other problems - but  since your lo is breasfed I believe he developed a very strong suck - breasfeeding is so much harder than bottlefeeding!. He may even be ok with half a hole!

Well done!

Dani,

Just try it with one teat, so that if it does not work then you have not damaged all your teats.

Also doing this, you will find that you will have to replace your teats more often.
