Help! How to get 7 month old to nap longer
« on: November 18, 2006, 15:12:44 pm »
We have been on the EASY plan since LO was about 6 weeks and it is great!  He is now 7 months and we are trying to shift to 2 naps a day.  He has never been a long napper (30-45 min), but he has started getting cranky at the end of the day b/c he is not sleeping enough.  I saw in the book that he should be taking 2 naps a day at this point.  He is crawling and pulling up, so I think he gets even more tired now.  Any help on how to transistion and get him ti sleep longer would be appreciated!

Typical Day

6:30 wake
6:40 cereal and bottle
8:30 nap
9:15 wake
9:30 bottle
11:15 nap
12:00 wake
12:30 fruit and bottle
2:00 nap
2:40 wake
3:30 bottle
5:00 nap (sometimes - cat nap)
6:00 veggie and cereal
6:30 bottle
6:45 bath
7:15 bed

We are trying to get him to a 4 hour reputine, but it hasn't worked too well and now his naps seem to be getting even shorter.

At 7 months most babies are at about 2.75- 3 hrs of awake time.  I see your only has 2 hrs.  Have you tried extending his awake time by 5-10 min every few days?  Often short naps are caused by too short of awake time.  Your lo should be able to go 4 hrs between bottles, so I would give it a try.  Just start slow and see how he does.  Let me know if you need more help.
