40 min naps during the day
« on: December 02, 2006, 06:05:39 am »
hi

DS is 11weeks old.  nights he sleeps appr from 9.15pm til about 3am for a feed and then generally sleeps til appr 7am,  he is breastfed...  he hardly needs settling at night which is wonderful

Day sleeps are a nightmare,  he will not sleep anmy longer then 45mins for me.  he is being breastfed every 2.5-3.5hrs.  when my mother in law puts him down during the day he can sleep like 2hrs, and she is doing nothing different to me. ii look out for all the tired signs and wrap him immed , he also can take about 20mins to settle during the day.. when he wakes after the short nap, he is still so tired but i caanot resettle him. he just screams with tiredness.  why wont he sleep longer for me, but does for mother in law..

Hi

Sorry am going to be no help but just to say we are having the same thing with short naps and then crying with tiredness but won't often go back off to sleep so I know how you feel, it is exhausting and soooo frustrating.  Weird how your lo will go off for longer with MIL - must be a coincidence?!  How many times has that happened?  I just keep thinking in the back of my mind that it will improve as dd1 was exactly the same and at some point (can't remember when) she started to take longer naps so fingers crossed for us both and all the other short nappers out there....I know there are loads!

What does your routine look like? Your baby may be overtired, 9.15pm sounds a little late for 11 weeks old

we had similar troubles around that time and I foudn that DS was caught in a cycle of overtired ness, what we did is take DS out for a stroll about 40mins before bedtiem and he would sometiems fall asleep , we would then wake him up and change diaper than put to bed. I really help as the catnap 'refreshed him' and he was rested enough to go to sleep if u see what i mean. He used to scream liek this too from beign too tired and it would take so long to settl ehim!
