when does sleep start??

i put dd in the crib drowsy with her paci, she closed her eyes and sucked away - don't know when she finally settled into dreamland but when does her sleep officially start?  i am trying to keep track of how long her naps are.  thanks!!

In her books Tracy says that it takes about 20 min. for them to fall asleep.  I count from when he closes his eyes and they stay closed.
