Is 1hr nap OK?
« on: December 11, 2006, 11:32:56 am »
My LO usually naps for 1-1.5hr, but usually 1hr. Is it all right? Should I try to extend her nap? I've tried several times. It's easier for me to extend 45min nap, coz she's still tired. But 1hr nap, no luck at all. ::)

Is she napping for an hour in the morning or the afternoon? How old is you LO? It's probably best if you post your whole day's routine so everyone can take a look to see if there's things that need tweaking.

Thanks

OOPS... My LO has just turned 8mo. She has just learned to crawl... her A time is usually between 3hr-3.5hr.
The trouble is, no matter when I put her down to nap, she naps 1hr most of the time.

If she wakes up happy from the nap then let it be. Is it for both naps or just 1? Around this age alot of LO's mine included started having 1 short nap and 1 longer one.

Hello there,
I have exactly the same problem, with my 8 month old! She wakes after an hour and does sometimes seem tired but then is unable to go back to sleep (she can sleep independently), often shes just going off (After 40-50 mins of mantra crying, bit of pupd) and then its time for E! V.frustrating

I've got a 16 month old.  We are in the second week of having one nap rather than 2 as I felt 2 naps were stuffing up night time sleeps.  I thought she would go to having one longer nap - say 11/2 - 2 hours but she only sleeps for about an hour each day. She always has a poo when I get her up from the nap - not sure if it is this that is waking her or if she does it upon waking. have been trying many different things to try and extend nap. She is sleeping approx 11 1/2 - 12 hours overnight.  She wakes up from the nap grumpy.  She spends alot of time looking tired.  She's not the best eater either and I feel the two things are mixed up sometimes. Have you got any suggestions - is she sleeping a reasonable amount of time for a child her age.  Is it me who needs to change my expectations and just accept that this is what she does and stop worrying about trying to change it.  We are expecting a new baby in 9 weeks and so trying to get our daughter into a routine that works before then.

She wakes between 6.45 and 7.15 am depending on how the night has gone.  she doesn't eat breakfast - have recently been told to go back to giving 100mls milk instead so she has something to kickstart her metabolism.  Offer breakfast aswell.  Try to give lunch about 11am but sometimes she eats and sometimes not.  Give 100mls milk straight after which makes her poo before the nap.  In bed by noon.  Awake grizzling about 1 hour later.  Always with another dirty nappy. In bed for the night about 7ish.  Generally no probs with settling but often probs with her waking during the night - last night woke crying at 9.30 for 1 1/2 hours.  This frequency of night waking seems to have improved since cutting down to one sleep but still not great.  she used to be a kick arse sleeper and we took our unbroken nights for granted since she was 8 weeks old till 7 months - now I'm hoping every evening that she stays asleep.
