Melon ok at 8 months?
« on: December 10, 2006, 00:00:18 am »
My lo will be 8 months next week.  I had her try some fresh cantaloupe today, which she seems to love when I feed it to her in small bits, and so far I haven't seen any adverse reaction.  However, I realized I didn't check before giving it to her to see whether melon is something we are supposed to wait longer to introduce because it might be a potential allergen (like berries).  Does anyone know the answer to this?

Thanks!

I have never heard of melon being an allergy risk (and as we are high risk I know most of them!) so I think you should be ok- dd has had melon with no adverse effects

Thank you!!  Now if I can only figure out what is constipating her (although it seems like almost everything does). . . . . guess I'll have to take a trip to another board. lol.

does she eat many bananas? If dd has a banana for more than 2 days in a row she gets bunged up for days! just a thought....

Nope, has never had banana.  Tried apple for a couple of days and that stopped her right up.  Also has never had rice cereal because I knew she was prone to constipation.  Her diet for the past couple of days has included barley cereal, sweet potato, peas, green beans, winter squash, avocado, cantaloupe and pears.  Anything in there that could be the culprit?   I've been adding extra water and a small amount of prune juice to her bottles, and even gave her some gerber prunes with her cereal this morning.  Nothing seems to have helped yet.

Melon is very high in fluid so giving it might actually help maybe? Just a thought.
Also I always found pears were great to loosen things up a bit!! Just gently stewed and pureed - they always went down a treat too.....

Thanks Claire.  She really doesn't like fruit yet and pretty much refuses pears and peaches, doesn't matter whether they are jarred or fresh and stewed.  Guess I have a picky eater on my hands, although I shouldn't be surprised, since I was the same way!!

I know what you mean -  I have a little girl who's gone all funny on me in the last few weeks too! It's so head-wrecking!
