Looking for Recommendations for Sleeping in a Hotel with 2 lo's
« on: January 07, 2007, 00:57:05 am »
We are looking to take our lo's for a short vacation to a hotel.  Our DD is almost 4 and our DS is 10.5 mos.  Both have slept in their own beds/own rooms their whole lives.  We have not gone to a hotel since DS was born and I'm just looking for advice on the best way to handle sleeping with all of us in the same room (DS will be in a playpen).

DS is usually in bed by about 6:30 and DD not until about 8:00.  Unfortunately, DS is a light sleeper too.

Any thoughts, especially from anyone who has more than one lo?

Thanks.

I don't have two kids (does dh count?) but...

you can get some hotel rooms that are single rooms with a living room that has a pull out couch....usually completely separate.  I know at one time they used to be the more expensive rooms/suites, but it doesn't seem true today.  I find they usually only cost about 10 bucks more.

Then you could put ds in the playpen at his bedtime in the separate room--your room, and dd to bed at 8 her time.  You might even let her stay up a bit later watching tv or something if you and dh want to stay up later...she could sleep on the pull out couch or in the room with ds and you guys on the couch.  Or, if you just put her to bed on the pull out couch at 8pm and had no where to go, you could always go to bed.

You are on vacation and deserve good sleep too.  Go to sleep when the kiddies do!!

hee, hee, hee....  prepare for craziness!!!   ;D

on the assumption that you are all in one big room....  divide & conquer.  set up beds for your kids so they are not next to each other; one either side of the bed if you can (or whatever configuration you come up with).   bring nightlights.

since your kids have very different bedtimes, have 1 parent put your ds to sleep in the normal way.  the other parent should take dd out somewhere.  perhaps there is a game room in the hotel, or they can just go for a walk & go by the pool, or the playground, or the lobby.  wherever.

once your ds is good & asleep (and you have nightlights on), then dd can return & you can get her ready for bed when it's time.  she is old enough to understand being quiet

keep your windows covered.  it will help.

Hi,

I work in the hotel industry. I work for a 4 star hotel. Bringing your own playpen and nightlight are both great ideas. You should definitely do that.

What type of room have you booked ? Some Minisuites come with a separate door dividing the room in two. Or you can get a room with a king bed and your LO who is 4yrs old can share the bed as a treat just for vacation. Another option is to get a room with two double beds. The downside is that you and your spouse will share a double instead of a queen or king...not fun for anyone. The beds in my opinion are too small for two people. Or you can get two connecting rooms. There would be a door between both rooms. Bringing a monitor wouldn't be such a bad idea either.

It all depends on the type of hotel you are going to ? Ask plenty of questions.

If you need more info do not hesitate to ask me more questions

If you want to splurge - try finding a suite with 2 bedrooms.  We used a AAA discount and it was only a bit more expensive that what we had budgeted anyhow.  Then you can try to put your DS to sleep in the bathroom - you can use the faucet for white noise if you want even.  And, your DD can sleep in the extra bed or your DH could share with her while you have the extra bed!

Thanks for all the replies.  We actually haven't booked anything yet as I was just wondering what would be the best to look for.  Now I have some idea of the questions to ask.  Thanks :)
