Night weaning?
« on: January 10, 2007, 02:37:42 am »
Hi,

DD is 10 months, and wakes twice a night to BF. She is EBF, takes a bottle but will NOT drink formula. I'm okay with that. We've gotten solids well established, and I'm wondering when night weaning is recommended. I'm sure that the night wakings are out of habit and not necessity. I'm also concerned that the night feedings are contributing to big full diapers at her second feed. Anyone have thoughts on when it's appropriate to night wean?

Thanks in advance!!

Hey there...My lo is just 9 months tomorrow.  We stopped the dream feed when she started to wake for it.  That's what Tracy suggests, cuz it's more out of habit then hunger...if it's erratic wakings, it's hunger I think.  She suggests that this could occur at 7 months, assuming you start solids at 6 months I guess.

We EBF as well, but I started to introduce bottle for her dream feeds so that it wasn't about me or feeding off me, and then I just stopped doing it.  I think I did w2S since she was pretty regular.  It worked well for us.  Much better than PU/PD.  Definitely the more food you put in her will contribute to those diapers and night changes, if she insists on it.

Good luck!
