Steps, standing and a sleepless night!
« on: January 26, 2007, 09:10:50 am »
My DD is almost 13 months and took her first (3) steps yesterday, and also stood up without holding onto anything  :) Yes, it was a fabulous day and we were very happy to see her do it, but what a night we had!! It took her 2 hours (of screaming) before she went to sleep. Then after 4 hours asleep she woke up and cried for an hour!

She's normally a great sleeper (despite some early mornings!) but I've noticed in the past week that she's also very clingy with me. If I leave the room she'll get upset, although once I'm gone DH says she's fine. And at bedtimes she shouts out for me more and seems to need extra reassurance.

I wondered if all these things are related? She hasn't really been affected by milestones in the past but I guess walking's one of the biggest!

Is there anything I can do to help her?

Make sure that she gets all the time she wants during the day to work on standing, walking, etc. Hopefully then she will get the urge out of her system and she'll master the skills faster.

Like Jessica said, it's just another period of transition. Lots of A time nad play time..she'll likely still do it in the crib tho. She'll start walking around the crib..isn't that soo much fun?
I had to to pd at that point but was told that if she wasn't crying not to worry about it. She's just excited and its another growing stage. Ours is starting to talk adn she just chats and chats and chats in her crib instead of sleeping right now.  ::)

Sounds like she's having some separation anxiety too...my lo had that about two months ago. it didn't last long and I didn't change anythign so hopefully your lo will figure it out.
