How to settle crawling tummy sleeper?
« on: January 12, 2007, 10:32:24 am »
My Ds is 8mo tomorrow and over the past few weeks has learnt to crawl (forwards, finally!) With the change in mobility, came a change in the way he wants to sleep. He was on his back, then for the last 6 weeks or so on his side, and now he is on his tummy.

I am winding him down the same way, but now when I put him in his cot he flips on to his tummy and starts rocking back and forwards on hands and knees - often bumping the side of the cot with legs/head etc! This has gone on with crying (on and off) for an hour at bedtime the last 2 nights and I am out of ideas to help him settle and get to sleep. The problem is definitely at bedtime, naps not such a problem.

Just when you think you have them sorted out they move the goalposts ....

Any suggestions gratefully accepted and tested!

Has anyone got any good ideas as I am about to start his first nap and don't want another hour of 'trying' to get him down like last night

Thanks in advance

You are not going to like what I have to say...with each "new" skill my son has had sleep problems.  Such as learning how to: sit, crawl, stand, and I am sure walking is next.  I did a lot of pu/pd (just the pd part) with some wi/wo.  I would put him down and then leave.  When he would get himself into whatever position and then start crying I would walk back in, lay him back down, and then leave.  For the first couple days it took a while but then slowly it would decrease in time as he began to feel comfortable with his new skill.  I know that is probably not of much comfort, sorry.   :-*
