Hi Weatherlyn!  I just wanted to sympathise with you and share my experience.  My little one has also just turned 6 months old and has always just had 45 minute naps, currently 3 aday.  This wasn't a problem until last week when she started waking 3, 4 or 5 times during the night.  Sometimes I have to help her get back to sleep, other times she puts herself back down (after waking me up!).  I don't know if it is related to short naps, which I have tried to extend without much luck.  My little one is the same as yours if I pick her up and will also grab hold of my arm or jumper if I try to pat her in her cot when she is too awake.  She also can only last 1.5 hrs of activity first thing in the morning so if she is up at 7am she will be yawning by 8.30am and asleep by 8.45am.

This is where I get confused, if I try to extend her awake time won't that lead to an overtired baby?

Here is my schedule:

7am wake and bf
8am solids
8.45-9.00am nap
9.45-10.00am wakes up
10.00 - 11.00 - activity
11.00 - bf
12.00 - lunch solids
1.00 naptime (sometimes later)
1.45 - 2.00pm wakes
2.00 - 3.00 activity
3.00 - bf
4.00pm solids
5.15pm - nap
6.00pm - wakes
6.15 - bf
7.00pm bedtime routine
7.30pm asleep (sometimes needs more bf before this)
10.30pm df

myia then yesterday was three naps again, one 2 hours, one 1.5 and 30 min cat nap . go figure, i am going to stop analysing and worrying and just go with the flow. i think also growth spurt now too.... lisa i had  look at your EASY, and your morning A really stands out in contrast to the afternoon A. Luca always starts yawning at the 1.5 hour mark in the morning but i keep him up at least until 2 hrs even pushing t o 2hrs 20 min and my morning nap is always over 1 hr 20. I like to think its the same as when we wake up- i know i myself have a good few yawns before getting into the swing of things.I read on a thread that if they arent tired enough they only do 45 mins, and then , because they only did 45 mins they are not rested enough for the second nap to be longer either so it is a vicious circle. Try extending the morning A, 15 mins at a time and see what happens. Keep us posted!

Weatherlyn-It is usually the case that they are capable of going longer and longer A times throughout the day. Have you tried limiting that first nap.  If he is happily taking a 2 hour a 1.5 hour and a cat nap he may not be ready for only two naps.  Keep us posted.

today we are on morning 45mins, lunch one hour......but we had a major growth spurt yesterday and he had two night feeds and we all slept until 8.30 am, was so mad at DH for not waking us, the whole day thrown off. I will report back once this spurt is over! ps lisa my DS also likes to cluster in the evenings.
