am i doing this right?
« on: February 05, 2007, 14:59:56 pm »
Last night I decided to see if DS might be waking from habit.  I fed him before bed at 7:30, he woke at 12:30 and i went ahead and fed him.  Then he woke again at 4:10 and I just have him his paci and he went back to sleep till morning.  Is ok to drop that feeding first?  Or should it be the midnight one to go first?
Thanks,
laney

Based on that info I would say that feeding is fine to drop.  You want them to want to eat first thing in the morning.  What is his day sch like? How old is he?

Cute picture by the way.  Are they triplets?   :o

Yes they are triplets!  They are 15 1/2 wks old.  Here's what the day is like generally, and it's always give or take depending on when they wake up and such:
Up at 7 and eat
awake for 1 hr 15 min to 1 hr 30 min.
Down for nap
10 - up and eat
awake for 1 hr 15 min to 1 hr 30 min.
Down for nap
1 - up and eat
awake for 1 hr 15 min to 1 hr 30 min.
Down for nap
4 - up and eat
awake for 1 hr 15 min to 1 hr 30 min.
Catnap (still tweaking this part) sometimes in swings...
cluster feed in evening.  Baths around 6:45 or 7
quiet time - usually in swings.  Then bed around 7:30 or so.

I'm not sure that the two girls are quite ready to drop a feeding - I wish though!  Sadly, one DD won't take a paci so I'm not sure how I'd get her back to sleep... I guess shh/pat maybe.
Thanks!
Laney

Well to me your sch looks great!  With three I am pretty impressed really.  If they are gaining weight and having plenty of wet diapers it is probably fine to a feed.  I think they will prob need one overnight for a while though.  I wouldn't try to force the dropping of feeds but if he is willing to not have it then that's great!!!

SHH/Pat will help to teach them to sleep on their own.

I'm impressed too!!! CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU!! They're gorgeous! It sounds like you've got things going really well. Be glad that one DD won't take the paci - it's one less for you to try and get rid of later!  ;)

But on the original question, I would definitely drop DS's 4am feeding first like momofclaire said. If he went back to sleep until morning then obviously it's time.
